Muparutsa advocates care for the elderly in new single

Muparutsa is reiterating his tradition of encouraging the importance of family love and care as reflected in many of the songs of his band the then Runn Family which he recorded and performed with since 1979.

RECORD producer Peter Muparutsa has released a new single, Pangidza Rudo, which shows his unending love for the elderly.

Muparutsa is reiterating his tradition of encouraging the importance of family love and care as reflected in many of the songs of his band the then Runn Family which he recorded and performed with since 1979.

Pangidza Rudo has during the past week became the talk of Manicaland as it is already on the Diamond FM Top 30.

Muparutsa is not amused by people who scramble for recognition at funerals and purchase expensive caskets and hire a catering company when they did not show love and care to the deceased elder during his life time. The jazz feel gives listeners room for rethinking the tradition of keeping the family united in love.

Muparutsa told NewsDay Life & Style that he had settled well at his Mutare PAYS Studio where he does all the instrumental arrangements including the lead and backing vocals. Muparutsa's trademark of anchoring fluid guitar lines with thumpy bass lines reminds his fans of his Runn Family band hits like Moyo Muti, Samora Machel, President Mugabe, Warumwa Warumwa and Ngembwa, among others.

Muparutsa worked for Gramma Records as a sound engineer for sungura music and multi-disciplinary producer Bothwell Nyamhondera where his core business was processing the musical sound.

He later rose to prominence as a producer for the then Record and Tape promotion label.

Of note, he was the most preferred producer during the short-lived Zimbabwean gospel music era in the 90s.

The Cool Dude as Muparutsa is affectionately known got popular for emphasising quality vocals. His strict position on character and personality shaped the behaviour of artistes in a long way.

Apart from being influential to his older and younger colleagues in music, Muparutsa in his long career, spanning over four decades engineered and produced several hit records for the likes of Hosea Chipanga, Madzibaba Nicholas Zacharia, Cephas Mashakada (late), Paul Mpofu (late), Oliver Mtukudzi (late) and The Runn Family, among others.

“I am breathing lots of clean air and fresh water from the Pungwe River. I would like to thank the nation at large for making the single Pangidza Rudo a hit within the shortest possible time. It feels good to be known for doing what people like to listen and dance to,” Muparutsa told NewsDay Life and Style.

Muparutsa collaborated with jazz singer Fungai Malianga on Tuchembere Tusingadi Kuchembera, a song which emphasises that age is nothing but a number. A well lived life allows the elderly to board planes for a holiday as well as keeping healthy looks and taking meaningful responsibilities. The Tuchembere Tusingadi Kuchembera video shows the elderly dancing, drinking and engaging in a lot of fun.

“I would like to encourage artistes to keep dreaming and creating good music with special emphasis on originality of course. The more different styles the better. It's up to artistes to come up with novel styles. As for marketing, unlike the days of established record companies like Gramma, ZMC [Zimbabwe Music  Corporation] and Metro. These days marketing is tricky. It is a one man for himself and God for us all  scenario. One has to learn the networks in view of marketing of music. Do enough research to get the best results,” Muparutsa said.
