Recalled CCC MP in court for assault

Former Mabvuku-Tafara Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator, Munyaradzi Febion Kufahakutizwi, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday facing charges of assault and malicious damage to property.

FORMER Mabvuku-Tafara Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator, Munyaradzi Febion Kufahakutizwi, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday facing charges of assault and malicious damage to property.

Kufahakutizwi (44) appeared before magistrate Ethel Chichera who remanded him out of custody.

He was being represented by Garikayi Mhishi.

The complainants are Michael Nyasulu and Patrick Chiremba both of Mabvuku.

Allegations are that on November 18 this year, at around 2pm there was a funeral opposite Nyasulu’s residence.

lt is alleged that some mourners allegedly destroyed Nyasulu’s garden and he asked the mourners to move away, resulting in an altercation. Nyasulu reportedly went to a beerhall and when he returned later the former MP, who was among the mourners, picked an argument with him over his Zanu PF links.

Kufahakutizwi allegedly grabbed Nyasulu by the collar and assaulted him with fists.

Nyasulu filed a police report.

It is further alleged that on November 21, Chiremba authorised Douglas Matadi to use his Toyota Hiace vehicle to campaign for the Zanu PF candidate in the constituency, Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, ahead of last Saturday’s by-elections.

It is alleged that the former CCC MP who was in the company of his accomplices confronted the complainant who was parked at Kamunhu shopping centre.

It is alleged that the former MP ordered his accomplices to damage the complainant’s vehicle and they used sticks to break the vehicle’s windows.

Kufahakutizwi was recalled from Parliament recently by the party’s self-imposed interim secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu.
