LAWYER and former Finance minister Tendai Biti said Zanu PF is now devouring its own children following the arrest of Women's Affairs minister Monica Mutsvangwa's son Neville.
Neville was last week arrested over alleged illegal foreign currency trading and possessing Starlink equipment.
In an interview with NewsDay yesterday, Biti said Neville had been arrested over political differences in Zanu PF.
“The rule of law has always been abused and weaponised. The arrest of a Cabinet minister’s son clearly shows that something is wrong in Zanu PF,” Biti said.
“The system is now eating its own children because of political differences and we have always said the law should not be weaponised against political opponents. The law in the country has been privatised and is owned by some people.”
He said Mutsvangwa should not cry foul over Neville’s arrest as he was part of the system.
A Zanu PF source yesterday said Christopher Mutsvangwa risked being stripped off his Zanu PF spokesperson position.
“The Mutsvangwas both Monica and Christopher have been ungovernable and they are suffering the consequences and very soon Christopher will be stripped off his Zanu PF spokesperson position. Christopher Mutsvangwa should realise that he is no longer wanted and has been used,” the sources said.

Human rights lawyer Passmore Nyakureba, who is representing some of the illegal foreign currency traders who were arrested almost three weeks ago, said Neville’s predicament was what the ordinary citizens have been going through and there should be no selective application of law.
“The courts are treating him in the same manner they are treating other illegal foreign currency traders. There is nothing special about him.
“It would be selective application of the law to release one person because he is a son of a Cabinet minister. The law does not operate like that. Neville’s arrest is what ordinary persons have been going through,” he said.
Political analyst Tendai Ruben Mbofana said there was deep factionalism in Zanu PF.
“Neville's arrest is just the tip of the iceberg. We are going to see a lot,” he said.
Monica, who is also a Senator, has reportedly clashed with Mutare South MP Tawanda Dumbarimwe after she allegedly stopped him from distributing presidential inputs using his vehicle.
Dumbarimwe defeated Monica’s preferred candidate Godfrey Harahwa in the Zanu PF primary elections ahead of the 2023 elections.
Dumbarimwe is reportedly being frustrated by Monica who is allegedly stopping developmental projects he had embarked on.
Monica hails from the same constituency.
Monica’s cousin Blessing Parirenyatwa a Zanu PF district co-ordinating committee member in Zimunya-Marange has been accused of allegedly forming structures on behalf of the minister, a development that has led to clashes with Dumbarimwe.
