Crime hits Selborne Park

Provincial spokesperson Abednico Ncube said the police were looking into the matter.

Residents of Selborne Park in Bulawayo have appealed to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to set up a base in the suburb to combat crime.

The residents complained that they were forced to travel to Kumalo or to the Central Police Station in the central business district to report cases.

They said police were in the habit of demanding money for fuel to investigate the cases.

“In order to combat escalating housebreaks and crime, residents are increasing their reliance on private security firms, which sometimes restrict people from crossing certain roads under their protection,” he said.

“This is wrong because every Zimbabwean citizen and everyone else in Zimbabwe has the right to move freely within Zimbabwe unless in emergency situations, for example if the government imposes a curfew."

Provincial spokesperson Abednico Ncube said the police were looking into the matter.

“We are looking into the matter,” Ncube said.
