MATOBO Rural District Council (RDC) has been chosen to host the annual World Rangers' Day to recognise the sacrifices that the wildlife conservation foot soldiers are making.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority said the commemorations would be held on July 31.

“On the same day, the organisation intends to officially open and hand over the Silozwe clinic expecting waiting mothers' shelter,’’ the authority said in a letter addressed to the RDC.

Matobo RDC CEO, Elvis Sibanda, welcomed a move by the Parks to host the celebrations in the district. “We note that Zimbabwe parks could have gone elsewhere but they chose to be in Matobo District which is a positive development on our part,” Sibanda said.

“As council we work closely with Parks as they have demonstrated this by contribution to infrastructure development in the form of constructing a mother’s shelter in ward 16’s Silozwe Clinic.”
