Ngezi Platinum Stars continued their rich vein of form after they edged CAPS United in a five goal thriller at Baobab Stadium yesterday.

Moses Demera opened the scoring for Ngezi Platinum before Hastings Chapusha equalised and further goals from the inform Obriel Chirinda (pictured) and Never Tigere ensured another set of three points for home side.

William Manondo scored a late goal that gave CAPS United hope, but the hosts managed to see out the game.

It was Ngezi Platinum Stars' sixth win on the trot in the league with Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva in charge of the game as head coach Takesure Chiragwi is away on national duty.

Mutiwekuziva was pleased with the team's performance.

"The consistency in winning is now very pleasing. We started slow, but now we are winning  week in week out and its quite a difficult thing to achieve in the premiership. But we are proud of the boys because of the hard work that they are putting," he said.

" Today was a very difficult game looking at the fact that the head coach is not around and we are in charge. That transition in football is not an easy one, but the boys responded very well to the situation.

They played according to instructions and worked hard against a big team like CAPS United. They are a big brand in Zimbabwean football and they quite intimidating, but we did not at that, we just played our won football. We got good goals from Moses Demera, Obriel Chirinda and Never Tigere. It shows that the team is focused and is also chasing for the title," Mutiwekuziva added.

CAPS United were the better side when the game started and could have gone ahead very early but Lot Chiwunga dragged his shot just wide.

Demera broke the deadlock halfway though the first half after he beat the offside trap to showed composure rounding off the goalkeeper Tonderayi Mateyaunga to slot the ball from a tight angle.

Chapusha restored parity barely five minutes after taking advantage of a goal mouth melee following a cornerkick thanks to a huge deflection which wrong footed the goalkeeper Nelson Chadya.

Moments later it Mateyaunga denied Tinotenda Murasiranwa's headed effort with a brilliant stop.

Not to be outdone the hosts' goalkeeper Nelson Chadya showed some great reflexes to parry away a William Manondo header barely a minute later.

An injury inspired substitution saw coach Mutiwekuziva bring in Obriel Chirinda for goal scorer Demera.

Chirinda did not take time to go on the goal scorers list with a well taken goal after beating another offside trap a few minutes before the break.

It was Chirinda's third goal in as many appearances for Ngezi Platinum after missing the better part of the first half of the season.

Never Tigere scored the goal of the match when he curled the ball beautifully beyond Mateyaunga from the edge of the box after he was fed by Murasiranwa seven minutes after the resumption

Wayne Makuwa's overhead kick after a cross by the exciting Junior Bunjira was palmed away by an alert Chadya as the visitors looked for a way back.

Manondo's goal in stopped time came a little late for the Green Machin to pull off a successful comeback.
