Zim digital rights defender lands global post

ONE of Zimbabwe's leading digital rights defenders,Thobekile Matimbe, has been appointed board member of the Global Network Initiative (GNI). 

GNI promotes accountability and respect for human rights in the technology industry. As a board member, she is expected to play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of GNI and overseeing its operations.

Matimbe is a senior manager (partnerships and engagements) at Paradigm Initiative, a leading African digital rights organisation.

Her appointment to the GNI board is in recognition of her expertise and leadership in the field of technology and human rights. She joins a diverse board comprising representatives from corporate worlds, civil society, academia, and the investor community.

"I'm thrilled to join the GNI board and work with a talented group of leaders to promote responsible business conduct and respect for human rights in the technology industry. I look forward to contributing my expertise and experience to foster a harmonious intersection of technology and human rights," she said.

Paradigm Initiative has been a member of GNI since 2017. 

GNI provides a framework for responsible business conduct based on international human rights standards and promotes accountability among its member companies. Matimbe's appointment will help ensure that the voices of civil society and marginalized communities are represented in GNI's decision-making processes.
