Zimbabwe’s journey towards achieving universal health coverage is gaining momentum, with the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals leading the way through significant upgrades to its health service provision centres.
These improvements, which include the near-completion of the paediatric theatre, the reopening of the radiology therapy centre and the refurbishment of the Annex Mental Health Facility, are set to enhance the quality of healthcare across the country.
In an interview with, Senior Nursing Officer for the Operating Theatre, Madazvipi Musodza expressed pride in the modern equipment installed to improve patient outcomes.
“The newly-constructed kids Paediatric Theatre is a standout achievement, offering state-of-the-art facilities to care for children less than 12 years, covering specialties from neuro and cardiothoracic to general surgery. We have moved to mobile theatre lights that allow precise focus, and the operating tables come with advanced accessories,” she explained.
Meanwhile, the reopening of the Radiology Therapy Centre has brought a sense of relief and hope to cancer patients and their families.
A patient, Prince Kwenda who was on the brink of death, shared how the resumption of radiotherapy saved his life.
“I came here in a near-death condition, but the re-opening of radiotherapy has saved me. I would have been dead by now,” he said gratefully.
A relieved relative of a patient Joel Marufu shared his gratitude for the lifesaving care his wife received.

“My wife’s health had deteriorated, and I didn’t think she could survive, but since coming here, the improvement has been remarkable. She can now sit and walk with less pain,” said Marufu.
The progress extends beyond these two facilities, as the Annex Mental Health Facility is undergoing a significant overhaul.
Parirenyatwa hospital’s public relations officer, Terence Mautsi, emphasized that these ongoing projects reflect a strong commitment to achieving universal health coverage.
“We are doing a lot of work to ensure we meet the standards of universal healthcare. The renovations and new facilities are in line with our Vision 2030 goal of becoming an upper-middle-income society,” Mautsi said.
These upgrades mark a significant step forward for Zimbabwe’s healthcare system, positioning Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals as a model for health excellence and providing hope to countless patients across the nation.
